Impending Stop & Shop Strike
Thursday, February 25, 2010 at 3:04PM USA Members,
Several of you have called or emailed asking me about Stop and Shop and their impending strike and what you should do if there is a picket line. My first reaction is to tell you not to cross the picket line but we are all adults here and you will have to make that decision for yourself. I personally will not cross any picket line and especially this one, I used to work for Stop and Shop and I know what these folks are facing. I also know that if one unionized company is allowed to demand and receive take backs then unions all across this nation will suffer. This, my fellow union brothers and sisters, is what we refer to as solidarity, because “united we stand and divided we will fall”. But don’t just take my word for it visit the Jobs with Justice website at www.massjwj.net before you make up your mind.
If we allow this to happen to our fellow union brothers and sisters then we are opening the door to having our rights violated also. I know that times are tough but the Stop and Shop corporation is making billions of dollars on the backs of their employees. Please take a moment to educate yourself on their issues and then you can decide whether or not you want to cross that picket line should the day come. If for no other reason it is about respect in the workplace something we fight for on this campus every day. I hope if a strike does happen that some of you will want to join in on the picket lines and support our friends in need.
We live in some very troubling times and if we don’t stand up for ourselves and our friends in need then we will become a part of the problem and not of the solution. I choose to stand together and fight hard for the rights that our ancestors fought and died for so that we could have the benefits we have today, I hope you choose to join me.
Thank you
Donna Johnson, President

I'm wondering if S&S workers do go out on strike, if it might be good for some USA folks to show up to lend support. How to oranize this, I do not know!
